Frequently asked questions
What do I need to use Foodtim?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later. The current app supports English and Simplified Chinese and does not require a Foodtim account. Public App Store availability is still being prepared.
How do I change the language?
Open Settings → 语言 / Language. Choose Follow system, 简体中文 or English. Your choice is saved. Fridge and food names you entered stay as you wrote them.
Where are my food photos and records?
They are saved in the app on your device. There is no Foodtim cloud account or cross-device sharing in this version. Your own iPhone backup settings may include app data.
How do I take or choose a photo?
In Add food, tap Add your own photo, then choose Take photo or Choose from library. If camera access is denied, enable it in iPhone Settings or choose a library photo. Default illustrations remain available.
Why am I not receiving reminders?
Check that daily reminders are enabled in Foodtim, and that iPhone Settings → Notifications → Foodtim allows them. Add food with a recorded date. Focus, Scheduled Summary and Lock Screen settings can affect display. Open the app again after a long break: each refresh schedules up to 60 future days.
How do I delete a fridge?
Touch and hold the fridge on the home screen, choose Delete and confirm. Its inventory will also be deleted and cannot be restored through that action. Collected magnets and saved-food history remain.
Why does a photo still appear after I remove food?
Saved foods keep names, photos and storage preferences to help with the next purchase. To forget them, open Settings → Saved foods & photos and delete the saved entry. A photo can remain while another inventory item or recent undo state references it.
Can a suggested date tell me that food is safe?
No. Suggestions refer to published guidance for a matching condition and storage method. Check the package and actual handling. The app cannot measure temperature, detect contamination or establish food safety. Foods without a matching rule need a package date or your own date.
Are the recipe portions exact?
Recipe quantities are simplified household estimates. Check extras, seasonings, allergies and actual amounts yourself. Confirm the quantities used before updating inventory. Recipes are home adaptations of university extension recipes, not personalised nutrition advice.
Are barcode lookup, receipt scanning or sharing available?
Not in the current version. There is no working barcode database connection, receipt OCR or remote image-recognition service to use yet.
